Small Practices for Real Change

Post in our ongoing daily series on the top concerns clients bring to Integrative Mind Body Psychiatry.

If you have read this whole series, thank you. You have journeyed through relationships, trauma, hormones, faith, grief, boundaries, and diagnoses that had gone unnamed for years. And now — for this last post — I want to leave you with what I actually believe about healing.

Healing is not the sum of grand plans. It is the sum of small, honest practices done again and again, until they become the new shape of your nervous system.

The Small Practices I Trust Most

  • Ten minutes of sunlight in your eyes each morning

  • Protein at every meal

  • A short daily walk outside — with someone if possible

  • A phones-off dinner three nights a week

  • One weekly time of prayer, silence, or contemplation

  • One weekly hard conversation you have been avoiding

  • Sleep protected as if it were sacred, because it is

  • One kind sentence to yourself before you get out of bed

  • One 'no' that gives your body back to you

  • One deep exhale, right now

What I Want You to Take With You

Your nervous system was built to heal. Your body remembers how. Every honest boundary, every real meal, every unhurried conversation, every deep breath teaches it that safety is possible. You do not have to do this alone. You do not have to do it perfectly. You only have to start again.

If any of this named something you have been carrying, that is information worth listening to. Learn more or book a telehealth visit at integrativemindbodypsychiatry.com. I see patients across Utah through insurance-based care via Headway and a cash-pay functional medicine track for deeper biological workup.

Thank you for reading along. May the next season of your life be the gentlest one yet.

Respectfully, Beth Makar, RN, Dual-MSN, PMHNP-BC · Integrative Mind Body Psychiatry · integrativemindbodypsychiatry.com
