The High-Achieving Woman Who Is Exhausted

Post 25 in our daily series on the top concerns clients bring to Integrative Mind Body Psychiatry.

She is the one everyone leans on. She runs the household, the project, the calendar, the kids' lives, sometimes the church committee and the carpool. Her labs are 'fine.' Her mood is 'fine.' She is not fine.

What I See in Practice

  • Sleep that does not refresh

  • Anxiety that hums in the background

  • Resentment that scares her

  • GI symptoms, weight changes, hair loss

  • A loss of self underneath the to-do list

Five Whole-Person Steps

  1. Get a real workup — hormones, thyroid, nutrients, blood sugar.

  2. Take one thing off the list. Then another.

  3. Sleep before everyone else.

  4. Reclaim one thing that is yours, weekly.

  5. Tell the truth to a clinician, a friend, your partner. You cannot carry it alone forever.

You are allowed to matter to yourself, too. I see patients via telehealth in Utah at integrativemindbodypsychiatry.com.

Tomorrow: When Medication Is the Right Tool.
