When Medication Is the Right Tool

Post 26 in our daily series on the top concerns clients bring to Integrative Mind Body Psychiatry.

Some of the most moving moments in my practice happen when a patient who has fought medication for years finally tries it — and weeks later says, 'I did not know I could feel this way again.' Medication is not weakness. For the right person at the right time, it is a gift.

When It Often Helps

  • Depression that has not lifted with lifestyle change

  • Anxiety that interferes with sleep, work, or relationships

  • ADHD that is costing you self-esteem and function

  • Postpartum mood disorders

  • Bipolar spectrum conditions

  • Severe insomnia

Why It Works

The brain is a biological organ. Sometimes it needs biological support to do its work. Combined with sleep, nutrition, movement, faith, and relationships, the right medication can let the rest of healing finally land.

You do not have to be on it forever. You do have to give it an honest, monitored trial.

I see patients via telehealth in Utah with insurance-based psychiatric care via Headway and a cash-pay functional medicine track at integrativemindbodypsychiatry.com.

Tomorrow: When Medication Is Not the Answer.
